The American Thanksgiving meal tradition is an exercise in options. It’s not a coincidence that pausing for the period to appreciate our good fortunes gives credence to creative dishes for the holiday and endless extended retakes during the days following the feast.

It’s interesting one of our suggestions for post-thanksgiving meal presentation has turned out to be one of our most celebrated dishes. What’s more amazing is every pot made delivers a different dining experience.

The binding ingredient is the 1/8 teaspoon of Red Pepper Flakes we use. It is the “Perky” component in this recipe.

You can put in a minimum of efforts into this dish with pre-cooked ingredients or go all out with fresh ready delicacies. Be creative. Use whatever left-overs are on hand the days after the main meal.

I’ve found what allows this dish to shine is a home made, hearty Turkey stock and a choice of minimally cured proteins and contrasting garnishes. Store bought meat stock can work in a pinch.

This year I only cooked the one protein. The turkey comes from our All Natural turkey farmer. I added our smoked ham for additional texture. You’ll find it available in our floor display case.

The included recipe is an exercise in options. The only suggestions is respect for the ratios of starches, proteins and vegetables. For instance, I replaced the requested onions in the soup with a crispy fried onion garnish as the soup topper.

The key is to enjoy the sustenance the holiday abundance has gifted us this grateful time of year. Have fun.
